Natural Dyeing Workshop June 2008

Rainbow

Another workshop has come to an end and women from New Zealand, Belgium and England are now unpacking their rainbow of naturally dyed threads.

Only after the end of the second day did the colours start arriving:

  • First yellow, from three different types of weld: dried, fresh and extract. The fresh won the colour stakes hands down.
  • The third day we dyed pinks and reds, the picture below is of the three ladies with the contents of the cochineal vat.
  • the Pink Vat

  • On day four we explored the delights of the indigo vat and
  • the fifth day was spent "playing' with extracts and fresh woad from the garden, which even surprised me with its strong dark blues.

So get in touch soon if you would like to join us for the next workshop in September.
