Les Journées Internationales de la Laine in Felletin is a whirlwind of wool every year but this year it surpassed itself in every way. The organisers were friendly and helpful, even helping to carry in our wares for us and smilingly providing lunch and pancakes against the odds all week-end. Our fellow exhibitors were many and varied showcasing every aspect of wool and a good slice of the million creative things you can do with it.

Marylene Lynx the designer of the Bohemian Rhapsody has done it again with our fine lace-weight merino. I am extremely pleased to be able to present to you: GITANE a bolero cardigan designed in two colour ways Mid Pink and Sea Green.

The colour-ways were inspired by squares from her own Bohemian Rhapsody, one chosen by her and the other by her daughter, Ingrid, who models her choice in main shade mid pink and madder. In case you were wondering about the prolonged silence coming from Renaissance Dyeing, it is because I have been away teaching in Ruskin Mill in England for 6 weeks.

I am celebrating my return to the soft Pyrenean pastures with a new Thanksgiving shawl kit in shades of madder, for the same price as the indigo kit, that is €65,00.

Madder is a root which has been used for dyeing reds, pinks, corals and browns for millennium. It is the source of all those gorgeous reds and browns in Persian rugs. Madder is very fast to light and washing ...

The new Thanksgiving shawl kit, designed by Sharon Miller of Heirloom Knitting with naturally dyed wool from Renaissance Dyeing will be on sale by the end of the week.

The kit will include a printed pattern by Sharon Miller with written and charted instructions plus seven 250m hanks of naturally dyed wool in indigo.

As you can see in the picture on the right the design was inspired by the delicate feathering of a birds wing, the different nuances of our naturally dyed lace-weight wool perfectly lend themselves to the creation of this feather light shawl.

Riverwide Scarf

Even I was amazed at the softness, lightness and drape of the Riverwide scarf. It is knitted sideways with 2 strands and the garter lace stream and delta pattern are both written and charted.

It is also possible for you to e-mail me and change the colours in the kit to those of your choice. Tongues of fire through asphalt? Flower beds in between a box hedge?

I thought that today, being Bastille day here in France, would be perfect to launch the lace knitting page. Yes, Renaissance naturally hand-dyed crewel wool has been discovered by the lace knitters!

Young American knitting designer Miriam Felton has been busy adapting her impressive Mountain Peaks design to be knitted with Renaissance wool. You can view and buy the pattern here. The shawl below is knitted using 3 x 250m hanks of Dark Green (1511). The pattern for the shawl is inspired by the magnificent Rocky Mountains where Miriam lives.
