Workshops in Natural Dyeing 2012

We offer 5-day courses here in our dye-house in France, where you can discover and explore the amazing range of colours obtainable from natural dyes, both locally collected and foreign plants and insects.

Have a look at some of the work done on one of our natural dye extracts workshops.

This year there was a natural dye extract work shop which will include simple felt making and surface decoration and a workshop with dye plants from the garden and hedgerows, including an initial exploration of solar dyeing.

In the workshops here we explore the use of plants in the dyeing of wool and silk. Resist dyeing methods can be explored if wished particularly on the natural dye extracts workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to work on their own dye project and dyed yarns will be taken home. You can bring small quantities of your own wool / yarns to dye should you wish. A more detailed programme will be finalised with the students.

The courses run from Sunday evening until Friday evening. The week can also include a visit to the typical French market in Mirepoix if wanted.

Accommodation and catering are in simple local gites in the locality or the chambre d'hotes a few paces away. There are single or shared rooms available plus double rooms for couples or a gite.

We offer transportation from and to Pamiers railway station, which is easily accessible by train and bus.
