The pack consists of 20 gm of Oak natural dye extract and instructions on basic immersion dyeing on wool. These are sent to you via e-mail as a pdf.

This natural Oak bark extract is taken from the Valonia Oak (Quercus ithaburensis), one of the most ancient natural dyes. The powder of the bark is known as tan, an indication of its centuries of use to tan leather. Oak bark is very high in tannins making it suitable for the dyeing of cellulose fibres as well as animal fibres.

The samples in the image are all mordanted with alum and dyed in the same dye bath, there are from left to right:-

Wool (with iron after-bath), Wool/silk, Wool, Silk and Cotton. The variation in shade of the last two skeins is produced by changing the ph of the water.
