Genevieve Shawl Lace Knitting Kit with Naturally Dyed Yarn
A fine lace shawl knitting kit combining the skill and expertise of Heirloom Knitting and Renaissance Dyeing. The fine feathering in the border is inspired and enhanced by the choice of shades in our naturally dyed range.
This Shawl is the non-identical twin of the Thanksgiving Shawl, having a different patterned centre worked on the diagonal but a similar border which fully displays the naturally dyed range of lilacs, violet and the Elizabethan shades of Zinzolin and Amarante.
Level *** For a fairly experienced knitter.
Needles:
- Centre: UK 12 or 13 / 2.5mm / US 1
- Border: UK 10 / 3.35 mm / US 3 circular needle - 30 ins / 80 cm long or equivalent straight knitting needles for making the 4 borders for "flat knitting".
Dimensions: approx 56 ins / 142 cm square
Dressed Tension over a centre pattern leaf is i8 sts x 16 rows = 1.25 inch / 3 cm.
Like the Thanksgiving Shawl, the Genevieve shawl is knitted using an invisible cast on for the centre square and the borders are knitted from it as an expanding 'circle' knitting outwards. There are no seams in this method of construction. However instructions are included for flat knitting this design with regular needles if preferred. Full written instructions are given as well as charts, making it a good first lace knitting project.
The Genevieve Shawl Kit includes:
- A 16 page printed pattern with written and charted instructions.
- 3 x 250 m hanks of Light Lilac, 1704.
- A 250m hank of Ivory, 0900.
- A 250m hank of Mid Lilac, 1705.
- A 250m hank of Amarante, 1707.
- A 250m hank of Zinzolin, 1708
- A 250m hank of Dark Lilac, 1706
- A 250m hank of Dark Violet, 1703
